From Dream to Reality: Embarking on the Entrepreneurial Journey
Did you know that nearly one in three people dreams of starting their own business one day in our countries? Yet, very few actually do...
One of my greatest achievements is taking the leap despite my fears and uncertainties. And I can only encourage those with exciting projects in mind to do the same. However, the reality of entrepreneurship is challenging and demands a lot of energy and courage.
I found it interesting to share with you my perspective on the various aspects of the job, both the good and the not-so-good, while offering my advice along the way. The goal of this article and those to come on the same topic is to demystify the adventure of entrepreneurship.
Firstly, I'd like to share with you the first thing I learned when creating Assaya Jewelry, which I may have underestimated before diving in. It's that one must be a true Swiss Army knife! From the moment you become an entrepreneur, the entire reality of the business rests on your shoulders. A myriad of tasks that were not on your radar suddenly come your way, even if they are not related to your area of expertise. So, goodbye comfort zone, hello new skills to acquire.
Embarking on entrepreneurship, especially solo entrepreneurship, means that you have to learn everything, seek information on your own. Continuous learning is a must. I've lost count of the hours spent gathering information online, in books, or through current affairs. Knowledge isn't gained overnight, and even though we learn a lot from mistakes, it's not always easy!
Of course, it's impossible not to fail sooner or later. And since failure is the foundation of success, you must persevere: miss your shot, learn, and try again.
Honestly, I'm not optimistic every day. I often feel afraid, wanting to quit everything. I feel like I'm at the foot of a mountain, staring at the summit, thinking I'll never make it. There's so much to do, so much to climb before reaching the top! But as quickly as the blues hit, they fade away. Dispersed by a phone call, an email, an exchange with a customer that instantly reminds me why I started and, most importantly, why I love my job. And off I go again! Inspiration and ambition return.
To avoid these moments of doubt, I've learned to stop fixating on the summit. I focus on where I'm stepping. I take one step at a time, and that's probably the best way for me to stay motivated. Every small success matters a lot.
